Transitional Kindergarten (TK) offers children four years of age by September 1, 2025 the opportunity to build their readiness skills and abilities in the year before Kindergarten. The 2025-2026 TK program is open to children born on or before September 1, 2021. TK programs bridge Preschool and Kindergarten, and provide young learners with the chance to learn and grow in a play-based environment that is tailored to meet their academic and social needs. TK is the first of a two-year program. Upon completion of TK, students promote to Kindergarten.
TK is NOT a School of Choice program. It may not be available at every campus. Enrollment is handled through the District Office, and students are placed according to location, the schools where older siblings attend and available space. In the 2025-2026 school year, Transitional Kindergarten will be open to children born between September 2, 2020, and September 1, 2021. For more information, please go to our Kindergarten Programs page.
Kindergarten for the 2025-2026 school year is open to children born on or before September 1, 2020. If you are attending your neighborhood school (SVUSD neighborhood school Boundary Maps are HERE), enrollment packets are available after February 12 through your school. Please contact them directly for more information.
If you are considering enrolling your Kindergarten child in a school that is not your neighborhood school, you will participate in our School of Choice program. School of Choice allows families to place children in schools outside of their neighborhood boundaries as long as the target school has room for additional students. Please know that the School of Choice deadline is February 7, 2025. Applications received after the deadline will be placed on a wait list with the individual school site(s). In the 2025-2026 school year, Kindergarten will be open to children born between September 2, 2019, and September 1, 2020. For more information, please go to our Kindergarten Programs page.
