Lighting the Way with a Positive Attitude

Have you ever noticed how one little firefly can light up the darkness? Its tiny glow may seem small, but when fireflies come together, they can illuminate an entire space. Our students and staff are much the same. Every day, each person has the opportunity to “light the way” for someone else through kindness, encouragement, perseverance and a positive attitude.

Our PAWS Character Trait for October is Attitude, and it is the perfect reminder that while we can't always control what happens around us, we can control how we respond. A positive attitude doesn't mean that everything is always easy or that we are happy every moment. It means approaching challenges with a willingness to try, learning from mistakes, encouraging others and believing that our effort can make a difference. When students choose a positive attitude, they help create a classroom and campus where everyone has the opportunity to shine.

Teachers and students have been hard at work building academic skills and social development. In classrooms across campus, students are learning to persevere when work is challenging, collaborate with others, communicate their ideas, solve problems, and take increasing responsibility for their learning. These skills go far beyond a report card - they help students become confident, capable learners who are prepared to navigate both successes and challenges. We are especially proud of the ways our students are learning to support one another, celebrate each other's accomplishments, and keep trying when something doesn't go as planned.

Our Student Council is already at work, developing leadership skills and looking for ways to make a positive difference on our campus. We are excited to see how our student leaders will continue to “light the way” for others throughout the year.

Our Makerspace is open, and it is exciting to see what students build and create when they let their imaginations lead the way! Makerspace gives students the chance to design, experiment, collaborate, problem-solve and sometimes start all over again. It is a wonderful place to see our students' creativity in action - and a great reminder that a positive attitude and willingness to persevere can turn an idea into something amazing.

October is Full of Learning, Leadership & Fun!

📸 October 5 – Make-Up Picture Day
Students who missed our original picture day will have an opportunity to have their school picture taken.

🎭 October 6 – 5th Grade Presidents' Play, 6:00 p.m.
Our fifth graders have been working hard, and we can't wait to see them take the stage! Come support our students as they share their learning and talents.

🎨 October 9 – Reflections Entry Deadline
We look forward to seeing the creativity and unique perspectives our students share through this year's Reflections program.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 October 19–26 – Fall Parent Conferences
Parent Conferences provide a wonderful opportunity for families and teachers to connect, celebrate student growth, and work together to support each child's continued success. School dismissal will be at 12:55 p.m. throughout Parent Conferences. Please plan accordingly and make arrangements for your child to be picked up promptly.

🎃 Friday, October 23 – PTA Trunk or Treat Haunt Party, 4:30–7:00 p.m.
Get ready for an evening of costumes, treats, and fun! We are grateful to our PTA for creating another opportunity for our families to come together and enjoy our school community.

👻 Thursday, October 29 – School Costume Parade, 8:00 a.m.
We are excited to see our students' creativity and school spirit during our annual costume parade! Please remember that costumes CANNOT cover students' faces. This includes blow-up costumes. Students need to be able to see clearly and move safely around campus.

On Friday, October 30 – There is NO SCHOOL - STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAY

As we move through October, let's continue to look for ways to light the way for one another. A smile, a kind word, an encouraging friend, a student who keeps trying, or an adult who believes in a child can be that little spark that makes someone's day brighter. Let's make October a month where our Attitude shines brightly and our collective light makes our entire school community glow!

I am very concerned about the number of students and parents who are crossing between cars or walking through the middle of the street rather than using the designated crosswalks. Please use the crosswalks every time you cross the street. This simple step is essential to keeping everyone safe.

U-turns in front of the school are extremely dangerous and create an additional safety risk for students, families, and other drivers. Please do not make U-turns in front of the school.

The drop-off zone in front of the school is for student drop-off only. It is not intended for parking or leaving your vehicle to walk your child to the gate. When cars remain in the drop-off area, it prevents other families from being able to safely and efficiently drop off their children.

When dropping off your child, please make sure they exit the vehicle on the curb side only. Students should never be asked to exit the vehicle into the street or traffic lane.

I understand that following these procedures may sometimes take a little longer, but a few extra minutes are well worth it to ensure the safety of every student and family member coming to and from school. Thank you for doing your part to help us keep arrival and dismissal safe, orderly, and efficient for everyone.
